Biographical or Historical Note
Donald Drury was born in London and worked with his father and grandfather in their stained glass firm in London after World War II until emigrating to the United States in 1957. He worked throughout the San Francisco Bay area for the next decade and half before earning a Master of Library Science (M.L.S.) from UC Berkeley; he subsequently became head librarian at Menlo College in Menlo Park, Calif. The windows were made in Drury's San Francisco studio in 1966-67. He also designed the stained glass windows in the main and Boys and Girls rooms the Central Library. The large panels in the clerestory of the Main Room were intended as an abstract panorama of Sonoma County, from the ocean through the dairy region and wine region to the Sierras.
